Orthoses:
WHAT
ARE ORTHOSES?
Orthoses
(orthotics) are specially made shoe insoles. Sometimes
we can adapt a simple "off the shelf" orthosis
as a temporary or short term solution to your walking
problem. This is a cost effective type of orthosis and
is used mainly for adults.
For
children who need to improve their way of walking or adults
who need to wear orthoses as a long term measure we will
take a plaster cast of your feet and send it to a laboratory
to have custom made orthoses manufactured. Adults usually
need one set for their work shoes and another for their
sports shoes. Women often need a smaller pair to fit in
slip-on shoes.
